I think I am going to scream

So I take my daughter to the doctor this morning to rule out any medical reasons for her lethargy and sleepiness.  So we get into this doctor office and the doctor starts doing the medical history.  Great that is what she is suppose to do and then we get to her sleep cycle and no sooner had we started talking about how her sleep schedule is off than the doctor REACHES in, graps THE PAD and starts writing a script for Ambien for MY 16 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER.

My daughter jumps of the exam table and I come up out of the chair yelling NO!!!!!  We don't do that stuff at ALL..  Then as we are talking more the woman have the NERVE to question my parenting skills and that I did not have the best interest at heart for my daughter. The ONLY reason  I did not hurt this woman is because none of my friends have been paid this week yet and no one would have bail money.

So we are going back to get her fasting bloodwork done next Monday and then that is it.  My daughter thought I was joking when I refered to the stuff suit who walked in toting a hard locked case as a legalized drug pusher.  She now knows I was not kidding.

Update

Hi folks, just wanted to let you know that the session went well today, I think we are both on the right tract.  This week I am going to get her into the doctor office to have a complete physical and also blood work so we can rule out any heath issues. Also she got a job today so she will be getting out more.  So we are looking down an open road with possiblitles and adventures.  I will keep you all informed of what is going on but for now we are looking up and forward

Late for Class

Hi folks, well I am late for class usually I check in on Monday's but things have been so crazy.  My daughter had her 16th birthday last weekend so we were planning and going into debt for that event.  It was a blast and I think she was really happy for a little while.  She is just so depressed these days and I don't know what to do to help her. We have our appointment on Monday with the counselor and I am praying that she is able to help us figure out what is going on and how I can help my daughter.  For the moment though I am letting her be how she has to be and not be jumping down her throat about her school work.  So that is what is going on

Feed the Need 10.10.09

So we headed out on a cool cloudy morning to Nashville to Feed the Need.  My daughter stayed up all night by herself putting the bags together herself, I just drove the getaway car. Today we ran into some of the same people but there were some young people not much older than my daughter in the mix. 

There was another gentleman down there handing out water and cigarettes to the people. He told me we needed to be careful because they are fining people $125 for feeding the homeless.  This is unbelievable to me.  Giving someone a fine for helping those down and out.  Do people not realize that in a New York minute they could be homeless and need help also.  I don't care who you are and how much money you have, in today's world it can all be gone in an instant. In that instant we all lean on each other for support and help. 

We don't go down and feed their drug/alcohol habit (if they have one) we feed the need.  My daughter in her teenage wisdom said she would take the $125 fine if that meant we were helping people.  I had to laugh at her as that is 2.5 days of pay for me.  We will continue but I think we are going to stop doing out of the car, pack up big shopping bags and walk around handing the lunches out. Feed the Need October

So we are heading out this Saturday to feed the need.  This weekend are going back to the reliable P B & J as it is easy and nutriuous.  Any ideas of something to offer in the sack lunches besides the sandwichs?  The last time we went out we lost the car that evening but God is awesome and blessed us with another car and this one is paid for!  Of ocurse I will be taking pictures and will post them Saturday night to the link on my homepage.  We go out rain or shine!

So any ideas about what to add to the bags would be appreciated.

Feed The Need

Okay so we headed out this morning to Nashville.  It was a good bunch and we did 20 sack lunches.  We are still trying to get a feel for the number of sacks we should prepare.  we don't want to miss anyone but we also don't want a lot of extra's.  We did 20 sacks today filled with Mac & Cheese, muffin, bag of grapes and a single serving of lemonade to go with the bottle of water.  This was a good bunch and there is one fella in particular who is always there at the car when we pulled up.  Now I was joking with them this morning stating that I had made the Mac & Cheese last night and it was my grandma's recipe.  This fella kept calling me grandma..LOL  But the best was the guys who gave me two thumbs up for my effort...

One of the last fellas who came up to the car, had  back pack on and looked to be in his early 30's. He was clean shaven and very well spoken.  As we drove home I contemplated with the girls that the young man probably had a job and a roof over his head 6 months ago.  It can happen to anyone of us and don't fool yourself if you think it can't happen to you. 

Someone sent me a PM and asked me about the cost and while I don't like to discuss the money that goes into this as I do it out of God's love and cost is NEVER an issue, I wanted you all to know how it breaks down so you would know that this is something anyone can do.  Three friends could go in together doing something like this and the cost would be minimal.  I spent $50 last night and we made 20 lunches, so that breaks down to $2.50 a person for a COMPLETE mean. Also remember that we had grapes and Mac & Cheese left over for us to eat on this weekend.  So really it breaks down to less than $2.50.  The girls remarked that 2 pieces of pizza at their school lunch counter costs $4.00.

Mac & Cheese a la PB & J???

So we are heading out this Saturday to feed the homeless and I thought we would change it up a bit.  I make a mean homemade Mac & Cheese and thought that maybe that could be part of the lunches.  Mac & Cheese is good cold (well at least I think it is) and if I get up early on Saturday morning we could wrap a single serving in tin foil. 

So that is pretty much decided but what else can we put in the paper sacks?  We like to put three items in them and then give them a drink.  What other drink could we provide besides water?  Any ideas will be very much appreciated, thanks

Dear Makers of Jolly Ranchers

Dear Makers of Jolly Ranchers,

I just thought you should know that nobody (NOBODY) ever eats any of the blue raspberry flavored Jolly Ranchers from the candy dish on our reception counter in our office. EVER. When it's time to re-fill the candy dish, there are always those ugly nonappetizing blue raspberry jokers all abandoned at the bottom of the dish.

I have my opinions on why this phenomenon occurs. For one, that color should not be associated with food. It was really a bad idea. That flavor just screws up the whole assorted flavors bag and I was just wondering if perhaps there is a group of blue raspberry advocates somewhere that have convinced you to continue to make these?

I have been the candy bitch here for going on two years and I am just at a loss. What do I do with all these neglected, disgusting, blue raspberry Jolly Ranchers? I almost want to send them back to you, so that you can send them on to the blue raspberry fan club. I used to gather them up sadly from the bottom of the dish and put them aside in this other cup. I don't like to be wasteful. Now I simply throw them away as soon as they come tumbling out of the bag into the candy dish.

Quite frankly, I have never even tasted one of these things. They could taste awesome! Aside from the fact that nobody has ever HEARD of a blue raspberry, I'm sure they taste quite good. I just can't bring myself to put that radioactive nuclear flourescent unnatural color into my mouth. I'm pretty sure my teeth and gums would probably be stained blue.

I think at the very least, you should consider changing the color of the blue raspberry Jolly Rancher. Maybe just eliminate the blue part altogether. By the way, what's wrong with good ole plain raspberry? Now that's a good flavor. I know you already have cherry and watermelon flavors hogging up the red category, but surely you could come up with something.

To be honest, the bright neon blue color really fucks up the feng shui of my candy dish, with its appetizing array of purple, green, red and red Jolly Ranchers, co-mingling with the ever-popular Reese's PB cups, Hershey's miniatures and Hershey's Nut Lovers miniatures. The Twix and the M&Ms hardly ever stay in the dish long enough to look pretty, but that is to be expected. Fed Ex delivery folks and office visitors of all ilk pounce on those like they are hundred dollar bills. On a completely unrelated note, perhaps it's time for me to start looking for a more exciting job.
